Esther’s series of miniatures are studies that explore the relationship between jarring and blended colours. Although works in their own right, these studies often go on to inform the theme of larger pieces.
Miniature i. uses the artist’s favourite palate of complementary colours and colour block style. This piece is made up of individually painted squares and rectangles of high-grade watercolour paper. The hand cut miniature paintings are composed, layered, folded and finally mounted ‘floating’ in the frame. The three dimensional quality of Esther’s work means that the piece appears differently as the viewer changes position.
